May: The Quiet Work of Becoming
There’s something about May that feels like a deep breath.
Not the kind you take when everything is finished,
but the kind you take right in the middle of it all—
when life is still unfolding, still stretching you, still asking you to grow.
May doesn’t rush.
It doesn’t demand perfection.
It simply invites you to become.
This time of year, I find myself noticing the small things more.
The way the light lingers a little longer in the evenings.
The steady growth in the garden—quiet, faithful, unseen day by day, yet undeniable over time.
The gentle reminder that growth rarely happens all at once.
It happens slowly.
Tenderly.
Often beneath the surface.
And if I’m honest, that’s where many of us are right now too.
In the middle.
Not where we used to be.
Not quite where we’re going.
Just… here.
Becoming.
There’s a temptation in seasons like this to rush ahead.
To want clarity, answers, outcomes.
To tie everything up neatly and move on.
But May teaches us something different.
It teaches us to stay.
To tend what’s been placed in our hands—our homes, our relationships, our healing, our work—without needing immediate results.
Because the truth is, the most meaningful growth in our lives often looks quiet on the outside.
It looks like choosing patience when you’d rather control.
It looks like showing up again when yesterday was hard.
It looks like softening, forgiving, trying one more time.
It looks like becoming someone new, one small decision at a time.
And maybe that’s why I’ve found myself drawn lately to stories that sit in that in-between space too—stories that don’t rush the hard parts, but walk through them honestly.
I’ve been quietly working on one of those stories myself. It’s stretched me in ways I didn’t expect… asked me to sit with things I would’ve rather rushed past. But I’m learning that the most meaningful stories—the ones that stay with us—are the ones that aren’t afraid of the becoming.
If you’ve been following along for a while, you know those are the kinds of stories I love to tell.
If you’re new here… I’m really glad you found your way.
If this kind of reflection resonates with you—if you’re in a season of growth, healing, or simply trying to make sense of the in-between—I share more like this in my newsletter. It’s a quieter space, a little more personal, where I talk about writing, life, and the stories shaping us along the way.
You’re always welcome there.
But for now—
If this season feels slow…
if it feels uncertain…
if it feels like you’re doing a lot of unseen work—
you’re not behind.
You’re growing.
Right on time.
So this May, I’m choosing to honor the process instead of rushing past it.
To trust that even the quiet work matters.
To believe that what’s being planted now—whether in my life, my family, or my writing—will bloom when it’s ready.
And maybe that’s the invitation for you, too.
Not to have it all figured out.
But to stay present in the becoming.

What is something quietly growing in your life right now?
April Blessings and New Beginnings.
Good morning, friends,
April has arrived with all the beauty of a growing season, and it feels like the perfect time to pause and share a little from my heart.
✍️ At the Writing Desk
I continue to spend time with Friendly Fire, a story that remains very close to my heart. Each chapter feels like uncovering another layer of truth, memory, and grace.
Writing this book has been both challenging and deeply meaningful. I often find myself reflecting on how stories can help stitch together the torn places in our lives and in the world around us.
🌷 Life in Bloom
Outside of writing, this season truly feels like a time of growth.
My garden is beginning to come alive with tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, herbs, and flowers. There is something so hopeful about tending growing things in the springtime. Watching new life emerge from the soil feels like its own kind of quiet miracle.
Family life continues to be full and precious — the everyday blessings of being a wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver keep my heart anchored in what matters most.
📚 What I’m Reading
Lately I’ve been enjoying time with good books, tea, and the comforting rhythms of home. I finished The Glass Castle by Jeanette Wells and Educated by Tara Westover. What are you reading this month?
Stories have always been companions to me, and I love sharing this part of my life with fellow readers. I’m contemplating the idea of putting together a book club.
🌼 Looking Ahead
In the coming weeks, I hope to share more behind-the-scenes glimpses into Friendly Fire, along with reflections from my writing desk and perhaps a special preview.
Thank you for walking alongside me in this season.
With gratitude,
Sarah Noble
Welcome to Sarah’s Desk
Welcome, friends.
I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m Sarah Noble — author, nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, and a lifelong lover of stories. Writing has always been a way for me to make sense of the world around me: the beauty, the heartache, the memories, and the grace that carries us through each season of life.
This little corner of my website is a place where I hope we can sit together for a while.
Here, I’ll be sharing the stories behind the stories — what inspires my writing, glimpses into my current work, reflections from everyday life, and the moments that quietly shape the words on the page.
Some days I may write about family, faith, or the beautiful chaos of caring for the people we love. Other days, I may share pieces of my writing journey, research discoveries, or the books that are currently keeping me company.
If you love stories rooted in heart, history, faith, and family, I hope you’ll feel at home here.
Thank you for stopping by my writing porch.
Pull up a chair, pour yourself something warm, and stay awhile.
With gratitude,
Sarah Noble
